- Creating a website: First thing is to create a website. This has to do with web design and development. It requires expertise in the field of web development. Which means you have to use any of the editors available e.g Notepad, edit plus etc. If you are not a web designer then you have other option apart from the fact that you can get a web designer to do the job for you. You can also use Open source applications without having any prior programming expertise. Below are some content management systems. - Host your website: This is the second stage of getting a website. Before hosting your website you need to buy a domain. A domain is the name of the website you want to host. They go for as low as $4.99 depending on the extension you are going for, though a large number of hosts offer free domain with every host package. After getting a domain, the next step is for you to host it. This means having a place where to can store the files and direct the domain to it. Every host includes a specified amount of space and bandwidth. The larger your website, the more space you are going to need. In the same vain the bigger your traffic (number of visitors to your website), the more bandwidth you will be required to have.
- Upload your file (publish your website) : This is the final step and after this step your website will be ready for the thronging of visitors. This has to do with transferring the site that you have designed from your local host to your web host account. In order to do this you can either use your host accounts in-house file manager, but this is often slow and poor. The best way to transfer your files is to download one of the easy to use ftp clients out there, e.g. cute ftp, smart ftp etc. After doing this next step is to login into your ftp account. Your username and password can be created inside your control panel. Then finally you can now transfer your files.
If you follow these simple steps then getting a web site will be very easy thing, even thought you will learn loads of new things along the way.
